Botanically, acerola cherry belongs to Malpighiaceae family of shrubs native to the Antilles, grow naturally in the wild in several parts of Central American, and Amazonian forests. Some of the common names are Barbados cherry, West-Indian cherry, Amazon cherry, etc.
